Evaluation
We were set the task of taking a variety of photos for 3
separate genres of photography. I chose to display the genres; nature,
landscape and architectural. I chose these subjects because they all link in
together. Landscape and nature obviously tie together but so does
architectural. With the use of old dilapidated buildings I think it links to
nature and landscape because this building has been left to rot and decay,
meaning it’s a fixture in our landscape and a place for nature to adapt and use
to survive.
The best photos I took, in terms of personal enjoyment, were
the pictures of the run down building. It amazed me how so much stuff was just
sitting around outside, things like chairs, tables and JCB parts. It was almost
reminiscent of a horror movie setting. With the sudden abandoning of the house
during the build. My personal favourite
photo was taken of a line of chairs stacked on the wall. I liked it because it
made me think of stacking the chairs at the end of the school day, giving such
a strange sinister place a sense of innocence.
Whilst doing this project my knowledge of the functions of a
camera has increased massively. Before we started this project I barely knew
anything about camera functions. Now I know how to use certain functions and
more importantly know how the use of these will effect my final image. Settings
like; ISO, focus and depth, F-stop and aperture. My editing skills also
increased, before taking my photos I had never edited in this way before. And
with a little help I got to grips with it fairly fast and I am proud of how my
photos came out.
Now I’m not saying that I am a master of all things
photography. I am aware that there are ways I can improve my skills to make
better photos next time. For example I’m sure a better understanding of angles
would make my work better. Also although I have come a long way with my editing
skills I know that I can go further to make my photos more presentable in the
future.
Which technique did I enjoy the most? I found it difficult
to answer this question. This subject was not my favourite by any means. I
didn’t like that I had to find beauty in other things. I much prefer to make up
my own ideas and have control over what happens to them. In photography you
must have a good subject matter to take a photo of in the first place.
In conclusion I found this project challenging, there was a
lot of finer details that had to be learnt in order to progress to a good
level. That being said I think that I did well and I am proud of my work and
the knowledge I have ascertained whilst doing this project.
